Sump Pump Check Valve Leaking: Causes and Solutions

A sump pump in the basement has a plastic check valve that has worked fine for three years, but suddenly, it has turned into a water fountain. Water is coming out of both ends of the valve where the rubber slip Fernco coupling meets the valve, in multiple places around the pipe, every time the pump runs.

I tried loosening and resetting the worm-screw hose clamps twice. No matter how tight I make them, water still shoots everywhere. After applying about 40 lbs of torque, I went in quarter-turn increments until one broke. At no point were they watertight.

There is about twice the width of the band's worth of plastic under the hose distal to the band on both sides. I meticulously cleaned everything, ensuring no debris was present. The water is definitely coming from the coupling junction and not the check valve itself. I checked that the drain line wasn't blocked, first with a vacuum, then with dyed water from outside.

What could be causing this? What should I do short of rebuilding the entire pump assembly and drain?

Common Reasons Why Check Valves Fail

Thank you to everyone for the info.

Setup Details:
Water comes from the water meter and goes into a 250-gallon water tank (not a pressure tank). Water flows out of the tank via 1" PVC and passes through a check valve before reaching the jet pump. The jet pump has a pressure range of 30 to 50PSI. After the pump is a 25-gallon pressure tank, which is set to 25 PSI and holding.

When the check valve fails, there is often no apparent issue. It is possible that debris in the valve comes out during disassembly. Re-installing the faulty valves results in immediate leakage in the same manner as before. For instance, a Bonomi valve that failed would only hold up to 40PSI. Removing and re-testing it later showed the same failure.

Could air in the pipes cause the check valves to have trouble seating properly due to turbulence? Could any of the pump fittings be allowing air into the housing, even if nothing leaks from the outside? Additionally, should the check valve be placed further from the pump than 2 to 3 feet?
