FAQs Baby belly band Original Maternity Support Belt
An exceptional aspect of the Babybellyband® is the simplicity with which it can be worn. Having experienced the pain of inguinal hernias, stepping into a groin support product was excruciating and impractical for a heavily pregnant woman. I needed to lie on my bed with my feet in the air just to put on the competing product. I designed the Baby belly groin bands to be worn without stepping up or lifting the leg. Additionally, they can be easily removed for toileting and adjusted to fit one’s support needs.

Style is another reason to choose the Baby belly band. Being pregnant and larger than usual, the last thing I wanted was a 'medical' looking support device. That was all that was available at the time. The Babybellyband® seamlessly integrates with everyday clothing (see testimonial page) and lacks the medical look of other support products.
DESIGN
The Babybellyband® adapts as the mother grows. Pregnancy can be unpredictable in how a body changes. Some women remain petite, others gain weight and hip size (hopefully, you're having a baby), and the baby’s size can also vary unpredictably (my petite 5'4" sister had an 11.5 lb. baby). To address this, I tailored the Babybellyband® fabric for complete Velcro compatibility. This means that no matter how a woman’s belly or hips grow, the Babybellyband® accommodates. Other support products offer limited Velcro adjustments and may not fit throughout an entire pregnancy.
Pregnancy complications are unexpected. Although I was fit, I developed inguinal hernias. My sister developed severely painful vulvar varicosities. The Babybellyband® offers comfort for any discomfort. The total Velcro compatibility allows adding shoulder and groin bands to the abdominal band at any time during pregnancy based on individual support needs. No other support product offers this versatility.
Since its market release in 2007, doctors, midwives, physical therapists, and lymphedema specialists have praised the Baby belly band as a groundbreaking support-wear design. Stiffer, wider maternity bands tend to roll up in the abdominal area causing discomfort, while narrower bands cut into the growing belly. Midwives find the Babybellyband® perfectly balanced in width and softness for both support and comfort. They also appreciate the adjustable, removable groin bands offering unmatched support for vulvar varicosities and hernias.
IS THE BABYBELLYBAND® WORTH MY MONEY?
All factors considered, the Babybellyband® is worth every penny. It lasts through multiple pregnancies, is versatile, adjustable, made of superior fabrics, fashionable, and importantly, very comfortable, making it economically sound.
Beware: From my experience, do not buy cheap abdominal supports. They are ineffective, frustrating, and a waste of money. This includes products made from elastic bands, thin spandex, or cotton.

QUESTIONS FROM WOMEN
How does a hernia affect pregnancy?
Great question. During pregnancy, the fetus's weight adds pressure to the groin area. With a weak abdominal muscle wall, a hernia can occur (a hernia is when the muscle wall is weakened and the intestines or organs protrude through). The most common pregnancy-related hernia is an inguinal hernia, which protrudes in the groin area. During my pregnancy, I developed an inguinal hernia, causing significant discomfort. I struggled to walk comfortably without supporting the hernia and experienced extreme pain lifting my other children. Despite being fit and not gaining much weight, my muscle wall was perhaps weak (this condition may be genetic as my mother also had hernias). Using the Babybellyband® can help minimize hernia damage, relieve discomfort, and allow women to lead active, normal lives: working, walking, and carrying children without significant pain. My hernia disappeared after childbirth, as often happens, although extreme cases may require post-pregnancy repair. I hope this answers your question.
Belly Band Frequently Asked Questions
Question 3 / How many hours can I wear the belly band?
If you haven’t worn a compression garment before, start wearing it for a few hours per day, gradually increasing the duration as you become comfortable. Begin with gentle compression by adjusting the belt’s tightness. With the Mamaway belly band, you can achieve the desired shape and comfort level.
Question 4 / How to pick the right size?
Follow the size chart below or chat with us on Facebook or Instagram for sizing advice.

Question 5 / Can I still use the belly band a couple of months after birth?
This belt aids lower back pain and postpartum belly. While we recommend using it immediately post-birth for best results, some users buy it months later due to limited natural healing. It supports muscles needing extra help, allowing further healing. Exercise enhances product benefits. The belt contains bamboo charcoal, granting antibacterial properties and natural far-infrared rays to enhance circulation.
Question 6 / Can I wear it during exercise?
Yes, adjust to a gentle compression level during workouts. Some moms wear it while jogging or doing yoga for core support. If new to compression garments, give yourself time to adjust.
Question 7 / Why does my belly band keep rolling up?
When sitting for long periods, try positioning it lower over your hips. This prevents the end from folding up.
Question 8 / Can the recovery belt serve other purposes?
Postnatal back strain is common due to extra bending and lifting. Our belt’s wide, seamless design supports backs, useful for older family members with back pain and posture issues.
Question 9 / Can I wear the belly band while sleeping or eating?
Yes, as long as it’s comfortable. The belt’s adjustable tightness allows extended wear, even during sleep.
*Friendly reminder: Don’t force wear if you feel unwell.
Question 10 / How do I get a medical rebate from my private health provider?
In Australia, you can claim these compression garments under Medical Compression Garments with private health funds. Check individual health insurance for coverage and specific requirements. To claim, print the Medical Rebate form, have your healthcare provider (GP or Specialist) complete it, and send it with your invoice to your health insurer. Products may be claimable under categories like Orthosis Spinal, lumbosacral, pendulous abdomen support, Medical compression garments, or Abdominal binders / External technical aids.
